There isn’t any bigger joy than getting stopped in the street with the question “I love your outfit, where did you buy it” and reply with the answer ”oh thank you, it’s vintage!”.

And even though the vintage scene here doesn’t even compare to the one in Tokyo or London you can still find some jams if you know where to look for them.

So where do you find vintage clothes in Edinburgh?

Well my friends, there are three main places that I love to go, the first one (and most obvious) is vintage shops!( ill get into more details in a bit).

The second place is cherty shops, now don’t look at me that way!

Rich people die all the time and a lot of there old clothes are ending up in cherty shops!

You would need to do a bit more digging to find that designer coat that you want so much or cool hat from the 20s that you can’t stop thinking about, but its there I promise!

The third place is vintage fairs and flea markets, they happen at least ones a month if not more so just google it, it’s worth it ;)

Now for what you came here for! My favourite vintage shops in Edinburgh!!!

There are quite a lot of them, but in this post I'll focus on the Grassmarket - University area since its the one I’m usually spending time in.

Armstrong vintage

Probably the coolest place in Edinburgh, they have a few shops but their main one on Grassmarket really gives you that “holy shit” moment.

Here you’d find mostly stuff from the 60s-90s but they have everything! They seem to have the most “trendy” collection out of all of the stores with levis jeans in every size colour and shape, old military uniforms, denim jackets, chunky knitwear, printed shirts organised by colour, oh and they have a corner full with Burberry coats! And so much more!

The prices are a steal and most of the clothes are in great condition (But always check before you buy!)

Because of the overwhelming amount of clothes, it’s a bit harder to find that very special pice but not impossible.

Carnivàle vintage (a personal favourite of mine)

Run by the loveliest Rachael this store is really something special, The store offers anything from Victorian to 1990s and the condition of every garment is incredible! And the prices are great as well!

Most of the garments here are in a higher quality than the ones in Armstrong in my opinion, Because of that they are a bit more pricey, but nothing over the moon.

The shop is very organised and quite so it’s very easy to find something special and unique without hours of digging.

On their amazing Instagram stories, you could see what’s new in stock daily(including prices and measurements!) so I highly recommend you to follow them!

Herman Brown

Opened in 1983 this place is literally vintage, they offer quite a unique style of clothes, it’s hard to put a finger on it but I feel like if I see someone on the street wearing their stuff I would be able to point on them and say so.

They have a capsule collection called HB ELECTRONICS and they describe it as “'The stuff you Mom said was for trashy girls in the 90s” and I’m totally into that!

Its a really charming place and even though I personally never found anything for my style there you’d find me hanging around the store every time I’m in Edinghbra!

If you plan your day right you’d be able to start at Grassmarket and end in the Meadows with at least one garment (probably more) that you apparently can’t live another day without.

You would pass through Mary’s milk bar and Lovecrumbs, as well as a few small cherty shops and boutiques, so don’t just run from one store to another!

you can find Armstrong vintage in Grassmarket, Teviot Place and Clerk Street

Carnivàle vintage is here and you can follow there amazing Instagram here

And Lastly, Herman Brown is located here :)
